Turkey has been experiencing a period of industrial transformation triggered by recent rapid economic growth in the country, including urban development due to increasing population as well as creation of electricity infrastructure due to energy demand increases. Cooperation between Japan and Turkey in the field of safety of energy and urban systems can generate synergy effects, since higher common grounds can be found between the two countries, e.g., that the two countries are located in one of the most seismically active regions in the world. In this project, top technical universities in both countries (The University of Tokyo, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Istanbul Technical University, Middle East Technical University and Bogazici University) will work together to create education and research initiatives for human resource development by creating engineers with managerial capacity.
